PostHeaderIcon What type of tennis courts should I have built in my backyard?

should i have one of each? clay, grass and hard?? or just 3 hardcourts?

Clay like me! We are thinking about getting a HC & GC. I thought you already had a hardcourt?

If you choose clay then be prepaired to get dirty! :-)

PostHeaderIcon how do i build drainage for grass tennis court?

im wondering if there is a way to build a drainage system for a grass court without having to put a layer of stone under my entire yard?
is it possible to have a series of french drains that all connect?
basically it would be much much easier and cheaper if i didnt have to dig up my whole yard to put gravel down and then put the dirt back on it, so im wondering if there is a way where all i have to do is level my yard and dig a few trenches?
was thinking of having a pipe every 20 feet or so running across the court connecting to the main drain that would run beside the court. i know i need to surround them with rock and have it slope down, do i have to have all the pipes surrounded by some sort of screen? and do the holes go in the sides it the pipes? how do i keep dirt from mixing with the rock, i was reading about surrounding the rock by sand or something?

any input would be helpful, thanks

French drains would probably work – most modern golf course greens are drained basically with french drains. Make sure you have appropriate spacing, slope, and drain tile size for the area you’re draining. Also make sure you use perforated drain tile (i’m sure you knew this but I’ve dug up a few french drains that had solid tile). The only concern would be repairing the surface after installation is complete. Once you put in the gravel top off the trench with 3-4 inches of sand (if your court is sand based try to use the same type of sand) and then either seed it or sod it with washed sod or sand based sod. You wouldn’t want use sod with dirt because you rill reduce the efficacy of your drain. Obviously, prep work is crucial at this stage to ensure that are no imperfections along the trench lines. You can wrap the tile with a geotextile to prevent soil, sand and/or gravel particles from getting into the tile and clogging the drain.

PostHeaderIcon how much does it cost to build 1 tennis court(hard court)? any idea??!?

By looking at all the times this question has been asked,
I would guess between $15,000 and $30,000 USD.

Here is a quick estimate from the Illinois Asphalt
Assoc. (http://www.il-asphalt.org/tenniscourts.html)

"Properly installed, hard courts are generally considered
to be durable and to require relatively low maintenance.
Installation costs range from $18,000 – $40,000, depending
upon the specific construction."

PostHeaderIcon what is the best material to use for an indoor tennis court?

I am interested in having an indoor tennis facility built in Nigeria, but it seems there are no standard builders in this part of the world.

One of the best will be Plexipave : http://www.plexipave.com/
If you already have an old concrete surface a good option will be a flex court : http://www.swiss-flex.com/7i.php

You can also build a clay court but it will require more maintenance work in the future.

PostHeaderIcon Can anyone tell me the size of a home tennis court?

Hello. I would like to build a tennis court for my family but are unsure of the dimensions. Are they the same as in wimbeldon or smaller? Does anyone know the exact mesurments (including running space)? Thank you for your help.
Ye standard doesnt fit I only have 95 feet length

Tennis court dimensions are pretty much standard. It would depend on the overall space you have whether it would fit or not.

More exact and a better detail.

95 should be plenty big enough. My buddy in London has a backyard court with around 90 feet of length. The court playing surface is standard (21 + 18) but the running room is reduced (from 21 to 6) His fence is on his side of the property line in by 6" so it limits it more. Makes it tough to play high bounces with a loopy stroke but you sure learn how to hit on the rise. You have 47′6" per side so 21+18+8.5 should be fine. Next question is surface.

PostHeaderIcon Building an INDOOR/outdoor tennis court on my personal property..how?

How, WITHOUT A BUBBLE, can I build a tenns court on my property that in the winter I can make indoor?

I’m not looking to spend more than 50K on this project, 25K for the court, lighting, and fence (basically 25K if I didn’t want it to be indoor) then another 25 K (or less hopefully) to have the ability to make it indoor in the winter months.

I have about 2 acres of land and I plan on putting this out in my "backyard" but I want it to look like a normal outdoor court with waist-high fencing in the summer and obviously to be able to playable in the winter.

Again, putting a "bubble" up is not an option.

Any insight you can give me is appreciated.

THANKS!

I think that’s possible but might be more pricy than you want to go.

I would build foundations of brick, for looks, that were maybe 2 feet high. You can buy these plexi glass shells that people make sun rooms out of, but that’s not designed to be taken apart and put back together again. And, on that scale, it would be big bucks.

You do the retaining wall/foundation of bricks for looks and in the wintertime cover that over with firring strips about six feet high and then make truses out of the same type of wood. You’re not going to be able to have this much more than 8 feet high and then support a truse roof. Over that, put plastic sheeting. IN the spring, throw out the plastic and take down the truses.

But, with tennis, you’re going to need a high ceiling. That would be difficult with this method.

PostHeaderIcon Can anyone advise on building a Clay Tennis court??

I am wanting a tennis court. It does not have to be a championship quality but it does need to have a semi professional look and feel to it.
I have been looking at a clay court which I like because of the plastic white line markers which are obviously no/low maintenance and have a good crisp edge.
Was wondering how easy it will be to get the "clay" and how much it will cost. The court will be in Brittany so I would have to source the "clay" there.
I had read amougst the sparse web information that the "clay" is mainly brick dust. I have a mental picture of me smashing up old bricks.
The court would be open air.
Can anyone advise whether this could be a DIY project? If I am forced to use proffessionals the cost might be prohibitive.
I like to think I can tackle most DIY/ Building work.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Unless you have a lot of resources and time at your disposal, building a tennis court alone is almost impossible. Read more about building a clay tennis court here. It’s too long of an article to paste so I’ve just inserted the link isntead.
